Hormone Treatments for Women

Hormones for Women

Hormone replacement therapy for women, also called HRT or ERT is most often used to treat the symptoms of menopause. As you may have learned from the "symptoms" chart in this section, typical symptoms of menopause can include hot flashes, low libido, vaginal dryness, weight gain, irritability, moodiness and sleep disturbances. Any woman who has experienced endometriosis, PMS, or fibrocystic breasts may be suffering from the same hormonal imbalances.

Synthetic Estrogen and Side Effects

Traditionally, hormone replacement therapy used commercially-produced synthetic estrogen supplements as preventatives against osteoporosis and heart disease. These substances were used early on to treat other menopausal symptoms as well. Because those chemicals are not exactly the same as those found in your body, they were found to cause intolerable side effects, and you will see many warnings against HRT/ERT.

BHRT – Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy: The New Science from Compounding

The newer science behind hormone therapy is called BHRT – Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. As compounding pharmacists, we use plant-derived hormones that are made to be biologically identical to your body’s own hormones. For treating menopausal symptoms, we can produce almost unlimited combinations and strengths of the following bio-identical hormones:

  • Estrone
  • Micronized progesterone
  • Estriol
  • Estradiol
  • DHEA
  • Testosterone
  • Pregnenolone

And, we can tailor these treatments in a wide variety of delivery forms depending upon your unique needs

  • Topical Cream
  • Vaginal Cream
  • Lotions
  • Troches
  • Sublingual Drops
  • Vaginal Suppositories
  • Gels (with or without alcohol)

Working with your doctor, we can prepare the exact treatment best-suited for your body and hormonal levels. We can help evaluate your needs, recommend specific courses of therapy, address questions about side effects, and assist you and your doctor in monitoring the effectiveness of your therapy on an ongoing basis, to assure optimal results.
